"My 8 Year Old Needs a Bailout"

The data is simply staggering… the need for bailouts just continues…

Recently my wife and I have noticed a few school lunches either left un-eaten or in the trash in the past few days… we had to investigate… Here’s what we found from the testimony of “Peggy” the lunch lady.

The culprit is the 8-year old to the right, Easton (without hat). Yes, I know, he looks all cute here but there’s more to the story and the numbers don’t lie:

  • All but four days since the beginning of the year the kids have packed their lunches
  • Easton has elected to purchase a lunch 9 of the last 10 school days at a $1.70 a whack
  • Since the beginning of the year, he’s purchased an amazing 24 lunches compared to the 4 approved
  • His current debt on his meal card is now $16.70 and collection calls are coming in
  • As parents we don’t know if we should simply allow him to file for bankruptcy and suffer the consequences or will that have too large of an impact on the rest of the union of students?
  • Do we offer a bailout package to cover the loss, or will these losses keep occuring to the American taxpaying parents?
  • I’m not sure if I have confidence Congress knows what will happen next either
  • Bankers won’t lend to him as he currently does not meet lending standards
  • It seems he’s more than school “milk”-ing the system
  • The math does not add up and if history tells us from social studies, this PE ratio is not good

My 8-year old needs a bailout… anyone got any advice?

"Leave the Penny On the Ground"

Today I picked up a penny that was on the ground. It made me wonder, is it really even worth it? It takes a moment to notice the penny…then, I have to process the thought of whether I should pick up the coin… I wonder, “do I look like a dork picking up a penny? ” Finally, I think, who’s filming me picking this thing up later to be shown on You Tube as the dude who will actually pick up a penny?… It’s a Ben Stiller moment to slyly act like you’re tying your shoe when you’re actually picking the penny off the ground. If it takes me 6 seconds to finally pick the penny up, I’m paying myself a whopping $6 per hour to pick up the Lincoln-laden coin…

At $6 an hour….maybe it’s simply best to leave the penny on the ground…

What’s your time worth? What penny-picking up activities are in your workday or your ministry?

  • Over a 4-day period I averaged 29 emails “sent”… at 5 minutes an email, it’s 2 hours and 25 minutes out of an 8 hour workday….
  • If I’m not saving, creating, or preserving revenue in our business, am I picking up pennies?
  • If I’m not doing only what I can do, I’m probably collecting pennies.
  • When’s the last time you measured some of your regular activities to understand the cost is it to your organization or team?
  • What job, hobby, or habit are you stuck in that is paying you pennies?

What you do needs to makes cents. The next time I see a penny on the ground, I hope I can delegate it to one of my kids or I have the focus to leave it on the ground.

Getting to the Bottom of Things…

1. This is not on my list of things I want to try before I die…
2. I have a lot of questions in life, after seeing this, I have more..
3. Maybe this is how retired baseball catchers replay great memories..
4. This takes bottoms-up to a whole new meaning..
5. Is this what they mean by splash-water falls?
6. Please don’t leave the seat up.
7. At least you wouldn’t have to worry about someone playing footsies with you..
8. I’m glad they had the “x” and check boxes to clarify, I was a bit confused what to avoid

Weird Cute

When volunteering one weekend, two women were looking at a computer and heard one of them say, “He’s weird cute, y’know” and followed it with that little girley smile.

Interesting……Weird cute? What exactly does that mean? I happened to know who they were talking about…. He had:

  • Ratty hair
  • Big Horse Teeth
  • A goofy checkered shirt
  • Big ol’ rim glasses

Huh…(I thought) “Him? Really?” I learned something that weekend…. If you’re not cute….. shoot for “weird cute”- Men…. we have hope. Call it “Weird Cute for Men” And I’m not just saying it to say it, I’m also a client. I married way over my head.. Here’s my “Weird Cute Mug”:

Size Matters

At our resort here in Palm Springs, they have these little 4 ounce coffee cups… how wrong.

  • Just when I “nestle” in to write a little or get comfortable on the couch- my coffee’s gone.

I think I’ve gotten up three times just to write this post.

Size matters. I like big cups and I cannot lie- these little cups make me cry…

Invention idea (or just buy me one if it exists): A portable coffee pot with a 4-hour battery so you can bring it with you wherever you want to “sit” and not move. I want to be able to sit on my balcony, in my backyard, or in front of my TV set and enjoy my cups of ‘jo….
